Gettin' Ready for Christmas

We have been busy preparing for Christmas! One night as we were getting ready for bed we heard a funny bell sound outside and then heard a knocking on the door! It was Santa! He said he was here to check on the kids and make sure everyone was still on the nice list! Austin said "yes, I've been nice, well, at least I've tried!" The kids were so excited and even Emily was all smiles! After everyone told Santa what they wanted for Christmas, Jake asked if he could go outside to see Santa's sleigh! We had to explain that the sleigh only works on Christmas Eve and Santa said he took an airplane, a bus and a taxi to get to our house. Jake then wanted to see the taxi. I did not let him look outside though as Santa was in a hurry to get back to the North Pole and we had to close the door behind him. What a treat to have Santa visit our house!

This year was unusual in that we were able to get our tree in the daytime and the weather was cool, not cold! It was so nice and we think we got the prettiest tree ever!

Every year we try to do some sort of service activity. In past years we have packed shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child but this year we decided to do something different. My friend signed up to be in charge of a Salvation Army kettle for a day and we signed up to ring the bell for an hour for her. The kids earned lots of smiles and money for the Salvation Army! Austin was especially good at telling everyone Merry Christmas and Jake danced a lot for the customers. Both boys enjoyed passing out candy canes. Emily, well, she slept.

Urfer is our special elf from the North Pole. He has been very busy this year reporting to Santa. He brought a coloring book to our house last night and when we woke up he was still coloring! One night he built a zip line and was sliding down, he was even swinging from the fan cord one night! The boys love seeing where Urfer is hanging out each morning!
